These two mama’s-to-be were so excited for their maternity session. Their commitment to each other and their dedication to become a family was the most beautiful thing to watch. They requested an in-studio session at my Abbotsford studio with the “Calvin Klein” look, and I think we definitely delivered! There is something timeless about black & white tones that goes with any home decor! These two ladies had such a powerful connection and it was crystal clear with every portrait taken. Our session was so fun and lighthearted. They laughed effortlessly and forgot they were standing in front of my camera.
One of the unique features to this session was their tattoos. Their arm tattoos were lyrics to an Alanis Morissette song that meant a lot to them individually as well as together. The lyrics complimented each other and when their arms were together, the sentence flowed. It reminded me of a puzzle piece finding its perfect place. Or of a BFF heart necklace broken in two but when together, created a perfectly shaped heart. So of course we had to highlight those tattoos during the session. And of course that image was printed for their wall at home. I love it when I can individualize the sessions for my clients. Because each client is special & unique, and their portraits should reflect that!
The best thing about black and white studio tones is that the images can so easily convert into black & white for print. Really, any image can be turned into black & white, but only certain ones look GREAT. For this reason, I reserve the best, most emotionally evoking photographs for black & white conversion. And it certainly worked for this amazing maternity session!
