This little monkey-shine came to my Abbotsford studio after a stay in the NICU. She was born early and started out life as a fierce fighter. She was 6 weeks old (14 day post expected due date) and we had the most beautiful session together. Her parents chose pink, mint and brown as their colour scheme and I thought I died and went to heaven. The colour palate was dreamy and went sooooo well together. I loved this session so much, I printed some of these portraits for my studio!
This baby’s mama was a physician resident and entering a challenging year of school. I had so much admiration for her, taking care of a new baby while attending university for an intense career. It was over a decade ago, but remember what it was like to have a 1 year old and be in full time university to complete my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree. I could definitely empathize with feeling pulled from all sides. I’m not sure if this mama felt the way I did when I was in school, but I felt torn and guilty for being away from my baby. For some reason, society makes new moms feel badly for bettering themselves and furthering their careers. I am a big believer in becoming your best self, because if you are a happy version of yourself, you will bring that home to your family. And every person deserves happiness in whatever form that looks like for you!
All in all, I loved having this amazing family visit me in the studio. We had a great time capturing this little lady and of course, the love they all shared together. Because in the end, that’s the most important thing. And this is why I always include parent portraits in every newborn session. This was an extra special session because great grandma also attended the session. There is nothing more powerful than wise hands holding baby feet. Family connection and the love of a newborn baby….total bliss. LOVE IT!!!
