This extended family session has to be one of my all time favourites! I met the lovely matriarch of this family after she had seen the display of my artwork on the walls of Whatcom Medical Clinic. We had an amazing preconsultation where we discussed exactly what she had in mind for her photo session. She saw my studio filled with props and blankets that I typically use for newborn photo sessions, and she mentioned how much her family loved blankets. So of course I had to bring blankets to the session for them to snuggle up together! The connection between this family warmed my heart right from the beginning. Just look at this first image where daddy is kissing his daughter’s nose with her name tattooed on his neck. You can’t get any more devoted than that!
I was so happy to have these amazing people in from of my camera. All the kids were home from different continents, so OF COURSE that called for an extended session! The weather was totally unpredictable, one minute snowing and the other raining. However, this group was up for anything! We trudged through the snow and despite freezing cold toes, there were still smiles all around. I can still hear their laughter when I look at these images, and it brings a huge smile to my face.
Family photosessions are among my favourite to capture. These are moments in time that should be honoured and shared for years to come by beautiful wall art. When I capture families together, I smile thinking about where they will display their portraits in their home. I want all my clients to walk past the beautiful images hung on their walls and smile, or flip through a gorgeous album and begin to laugh.
There is truly nothing more important than family.
